Shoppers prefer to research products online before making a purchase, according to a recent report from Software as a Service (SaaS) engine Coveo. In fact, 37% of shoppers research products online before making a purchase in-store, according to the report. Twenty-three percent of consumers said they prefer to research products on social media specifically before making an in-person purchase, while 55% of surveyed consumers said they do research on the website of the retailer from which they intend to purchase.
In all, 79% of consumers reported that they conduct some kind of research online or on social media before making a purchase.
In order to accommodate this buying practice, retailers will benefit from making information easily accessible to shoppers, as well as displaying items that are in-stock at brick-and-mortar locations.
The Coveo report surveyed 4,000 adult shoppers across the US and UK in January 2023.
